Closing the gate

One of our first goals at Caistor Hall was straightforward: make the site safe and secure.

With three separate entrances to the estate, that meant three gates. Three traditional five-bar wooden gates have been installed across the grounds — honest, well-made, and entirely at home in a Norfolk landscape.

They mark something beyond the practical, too. For decades, this was a place people arrived at freely — as hotel guests, as visitors. The gates closing is a quiet acknowledgement that one chapter has ended and another is beginning.

The gates allow machinery and teams to move safely around the grounds — for tree work, clearance, and the practical business of preparing 33 acres for what comes next. They also mean the site can be properly secured between visits.

Standing at the gate, the Hall frames itself quietly through the trees. The gravel drive, the outbuildings, the old oak canopy above. It's a good view. One that rewards being paused at for a moment.

For now, the gates are closed. The work goes on.
